Jerry Joiner is a multi-instrumentalist from Portland, Oregon, known for his solo music project which he also named "Girlfriends". Joiner released his debut and only self-titled album under the "Girlfriends" name in 2009. The album is noted for its unique blend of math rock, pop-punk energy, midwestern emo, and synthesized electronic loops. He utilized looping machines and technical instrumentation, including irregular time signatures and finger-tapping, to create the sound of a full band by himself.
